Distal Intestinal Obstruction Syndrome (DIOS)

One of the unique problems that can develop in someone with CF is a condition in which the bowel or intestine may become partly blocked.  This can cause a lot of pain, bloating, cramping and nausea.  About 1 out of every 10-20 people with CF get DIOS.  More information about what DIOS is, how to recognize it and how it is best treated can be found at the American Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website, and at the CF Canada website (under the CF Health menu) here.
